Buried

We had to have the snow bank in our dooryard pushed back to make room for the storm we're going to get this weekend. Another 6-12 inches is predicted. Now we really can't get to the shed.

I think I want to move to South Africa. Elle...can I stay with you for awhile????

She's ba-aaaack

Just two days after her life-altering surgery, and Hazel is already back to her normal making-it-impossible-for-Kel-to-get-any-work-done self.

Well, I was born in a small town...

It seemed like such a simple thing. I had to take a trip to the post office today to pick up a package that was too big to fit in my mailbox. But it turned into so much more...

Here's when you know you live in a small town: the post office closes for an hour for lunch.

So I figured I'd go fill up my car with gas. Imagine my shock to discover that gas prices had jumped nearly 20cents/gallon since the last time I gassed up.

I filled up anyway. Then I went back to the post office and waited for another 23 minutes. While I sat in the parking lot I took a picture of these trees:

Once the post office opened again I discovered that the package was actually for my brother-in-law. This is me swearing on the ride home:

Then, a plow truck broke down. Right in front of my road.

Unsuspecting

Little did Hazel know, when she woke up this morning, what Fate had in store for her...
That's right. We brought our darling Hazel in this morning to be spayed. And, coincidentally enough, today is National Spay Day.

Speechless

A very dear friend of mine sent me a package of Heath clippings and articles. I've seen most of these pictures hundreds of times online, and I've read the Vanity Fair article so many times that I have it memorized. But holding it all in my hands...there's no real way for me to describe the feeling.
Thank you, Theresa.

Weary

There's a box I need in the shed. I think I can wait until spring, though.

Still Life #3: Accessorize Effectively

More snow today...

The deal: step one

Step one to growing out grey hair: a new haircut.

A free haircut (like this one) is the best kind. (Thanks Bec!)

Storage

We bought new windows with our tax return. The vinyl will crack if they're stored in the shed, so they're taking up space in the living room. When is spring coming again?

View #1 of my sister-in-law's road.

I love this road. Here is the winter view. (Spring view, summer view, and autumn view soon to come.)

A deal

My hubby is not a fan of facial hair. I don't mean on other guys; I'm sure he doesn't care one way or the other about that. Just on himself. Me...I like it. I've been after him for years to grow a beard, or at least a goatee. To no avail.

Over the past few days, my buddy J.C. has been using his 365 blog to chronicle the state of his facial hair growth. He likes it, his wife hates it. I showed said blog to my own hubby and he made me a deal. He'll grow a goatee if I stop coloring my hair and let it go au naturel (aka grey), a la Emmylou Harris.

I'll have to give this deal some careful thought. But, as you can see, I'll have to decide soon. If only I looked like Emmylou Harris, this would be much easier...

I Guess We Can't Make It Here Anymore

At one time, Dexter Shoe Company employed nearly 1500 people in Dexter, Maine (population 5000). Now it's a warehouse, and most of those jobs are in Puerto Rico.

A big, big cheat here...

This is my last "cheat" photo, since I am actually leaving in a few moments to go get (among other things) a pack of AA batteries for da camera.

This picture is in response to the one I posted about my daughter's skateboard. My son would like to make it very clear that he made one last year. (Taken last June. Cropped to ensure Son's anonymity.)

Another cheat

And this is a picture I took on Tuesday. The snow bank is so high, and I'm so short, that I have a hard time turning onto my road.

Make up photo

I'm sort of cheating. I didn't get out of the house again today (bad roads + not feeling good = no batteries.) So here is a picture I took for the 365 blog last month, but never used. I call it:

The Laziest Supper I've Ever Served.

Ingenious photo to appear here later

My camera batteries are dead. The batteries in the remote don't have enough juice to help me out. I'll have to wait until after my dooryard is plowed out tomorrow morning to get some more.

Feel free to post comments of pity for my plight...

Frozen apple juice...

Where have all the plow trucks gone?

They're out of salt every one.

Generation gap

My daughter didn't like the fabric I bought for her bedroom curtains. This is what she chose instead. That's right...FOUR different fabrics, one for each panel. I think it's gonna be kinda cool.

Divine secrets of the yo-yo sisterhood.

I was going to make a yo-yo coverlet for my friend's bed. It took me four nights to stitch 135 yo-yos. This morning I decided to sew them together to see where I was.

135 yo-yos got me a rectangle that's 15" x 26". It's gonna take a lotta yo-yos to cover a queen sized bed.

You know what, Erin? Your bed looks fine as it is. And this little rectangle is just the right size for the back of my living room chair...

Still Life 2: "Fanaticism"

I woke up this morning with an almost fanatical urge to clean every surface in my house.

For those of you who don't know me very well, this is atypical behavior.

Waiting for Summer

My daughter made this skateboard at school. Right now it's like an unpopped kernel of popcorn.

(I cropped this picture, then adjusted the contrast, so that my daughter remains anonymous.)

Moo

I don't collect cow doo-dads, but you wouldn't know it to look at my kitchen.

I bought the white cow creamer in the middle a few years ago because it reminded me of Code of the Woosters. A friend of mine saw it and got the kitchy 60's plastic creamer for me as a joke. My mom noticed, and presented me with the cow egg separator on the left. I figured, Why fight it? and grabbed the butter dish on Ebay. (Two bucks...can't beat it.) Now all I need are cow salt and pepper shakers.

Damn. I think this means I collect cow doo-dads.

Change of plans

I had planned to post a picture of my buddies and myself celebrating the Patriots' Superbowl victory over that team from New York. Instead I'm posting a picture of my daughter's science experiment.

Did you know that celery is porous enough to soak up colored water? It's pretty cool.

Aftermath

I'm still a bit on the queasy side today, so my kids took these pictures for me.

We had quite a storm yesterday. Snow, sleet, rain...the whole caboodle. It was terrible driving, but the spectacle of glassy trees this morning made it worth it.
